This week at E3 finally brought Sony and Microsoft to reveal full details on their consoles, bringing the battle of the consoles to its peak. While Sony’s PS4 sports a price tag ($399.99) a full $100 lower than the Xbox One ($499.99), the main focus and debate actually stems from the sharing of games. As it stands now, with the current generations of Xbox and PlayStation (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) people are allowed to trade, resell, and borrow games with limited to no restrictions. Sony intends to keep this system in place with the PS4, while Microsoft has caused quite the stir with their new game-sharing system. With the Xbox One there will be heavy restrictions on game sharing, allowing the owner to share with only ONE other person after transferring the license, and requiring that person to have been on their friends’ list for 30 or more days. When it comes to resale, they are leaving this completely up to the game publishers. This switch up in policy has caused quite the uproar in the gaming community. Both consoles will be DVD and Blu-ray capable, and both controllers have been revamped, with PlayStation’s gaining a bit of bulk with an added touch pad. When it comes to gaming offline though, the consoles split once more. While the PS4 will offer unlimited offline gaming, the Xbox One will require the user to connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours. Many of the changes Microsoft has made have created a lot of frustration and animosity with the Xbox user base, including the forced purchase of the now “always on” Kinnect that pushed both the price tag and paranoia of users up simultaneously. Where do you stand on the PS4 vs. Xbox One debate? Don’t forget to like, share, and weigh in below!
