This week, further new developments announced at Longbridge which will bring more needed jobs to our area. The Longbridge redevelopment, which was spearheaded thanks to the former Conservative-led coalition at Birmingham City Council, has already provided opportunities for local people to live, work and shop on the old MG Rover site. This new application which has just been submitted to the Council will potentially see more businesses coming to our area, meaning in turn more job opportunities for us. Its a clear sign that this Governments long term economic plan is working that investors are confident enough to build office space in the belief that there will be future demand for it. We mustnt forget that it is businesses that create jobs, not governments. Obviously any large scale regeneration project does bring with it some local disruption and Im keen to ensure that the impact of this is properly managed. This is why, following the recent public consultation, I took the time to view the road layout and traffic improvements that are taking place too. Im confident that once completed, these should ease some of the more critical issues of traffic flows and congestion. Its also absolutely vital to ensure that we have the right infrastructure and facilities in place. Families who already live here as well as those moving in, need proper public transport, doctors surgeries, shops, schools and leisure facilities. For this reason, I brought a senior Treasury minister to our area yesterday. Andrea Leadsoms team works to ensure that infrastructure in our country supports new developments like that in Longbridge. Thankfully, as part of our long term economic plan, we are now able to plan and fund infrastructure which benefits local residents. Im keen to hear any feedback from you on the Longbridge development. Im in regular communication with developers St Modwen and Council officers to ensure that your opinions are taken into account in their plans.
