This week has seen 21 (Gibraltar 1779-1783) Bty hard at work in soaring temperatures. The DH3 Dets are busy and the BSM has started to visit locations taking his own brand of morale round and ensuring that the guy’s boots fit and their mail is getting though. The T-HAWK crews are beginning to show signs of “Royal Engineerism” which has been firmly stamped on - despite being work comrades we must always maintain a healthy rivalry! Here in Camp Bastion the H450 crews and REME are continuing the good work, working all hours to provide vital protection for the troops on the ground. Members of the Bty took part in the DANCON march, this is a Danish event over 15 miles in full kit, the event started in 1972 and is run wherever the Danish Army serve. Bdr Cook demolished the field and recorded the best summer time ever with a winning time of 2 hours 22 minutes, only 6 minutes short of the all time record. An amazing achievement and all the more remarkable when you consider as a teenager Bdr Cook was bed ridden for 2 years with a debilitating disease. Truly inspirational! The next challenge will be the Bastion half marathon, Sgt Reilly has everyone in training and hopefully we will see another victory for the Bty. The R&R plot starts next week with everyone counting the days down to their own departure dates, where a well earned rest will be enjoyed by all I’m sure. Time is flying by and on behalf of the Bty I would like to thank all our friends and families for the amazing parcels and letters, they really do keep morale up. In return the Bty’s first newsletter will be published soon, please send us feedback on any improvements we can make and we will do our best with the limited IT we have available.
