This week in 1983: Culture Club went to #1 on the UK albums chart with their second studio release, Colour By Numbers, on Virgin Records (it also topped the charts in Canada, Australia, New Zealand & Japan, while peaking at #2 in the US); it was the groups most successful LP & one of the most popular of the 80s; it produced four US hits (five, overall, that charted in various countries) including first single Church of the Poison Mind, the #1 Karma Chameleon, its more rock-ish Top 5 follow-up Miss Me Blind, as well as club hit Its a Miracle; the songs were infectious, the videos were all over MTV & the band was a media magnet; Rolling Stone later ranked it #96 on their list of The 100 Best Albums of the 1980s…
