This week in Eagles history September 16 1995- The Canmore Eagles played the Canucks at the Max Bell Arena in Calgary in their 1st ever AJHL game as they dropped a 5-3 decision. Jared Mercer scored the Eagles 1st ever goal, with Tyler Baines getting the assist. September 20 1995- The Canmore Eagles played their 1st ever AJHL home game in front of a sold crowd of 900 fans at the Canmore Recreation Centre as they defeated the visiting Calgary Royals 6-2. September 1999- Longtime national anthem singer, our wonderful Sydney Montieth sang the O Canada for the first time at an Eagles game. What was remarkable is that Sydney was only 2 years old at the time. The Cochrane, AB native is now in her 16th season as our national anthem and she is no doubt the best national anthem singer in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Keep up the great work Syd! September 16 2008- Eagles star forward Scott Hudson (St.Albert, AB) scored a pair of goals and added 2 assists, while Kaare Odegard (Red Deer, AB) a star on the blueline had a 5 point night (1 goal, 4 assists) as the Eagles defeated the visiting Calgary Royals 6-5 in overtime. Also in that game, 16 year-old rookie forward Logan Sceviour had a pair of goals, the first 2 goals of his Junior career. September 18 2013- Eagles all-star defenceman Trey Phillips (Okotoks, AB) had a 4 point night (2 goals, 2 assists) as the Eagles defeated the Calgary Mustangs 6-3 at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary. It was the game after Trey committed to a scholarship at the University Of Vermont and through all of last season, he showed why Vermont added a very skilled and great all-around player to their team. Thats it for this week... If I am missing any great highlights that happened between September 15 & 21, please let me know: lucpt@hotmail
