This week is bittersweet for me. It is our churchs annual day camp for kids with disabilities. Last year at this time, Princess was able to attend only one day of camp. At the end of that first day of camp, she had her second hospitalization of the summer. So far she has been doing really well this week but I am still reminded of last year. A part of me wonders if shell do as well as she did at VBS. It is a totally irrational fear not based on anything current but um yeah, its still there. Another thing that glares at me is that Princess is a child with disabilities. I see these children every day going into camp. Some with hidden disabilities. Some whose are not. Princess is on the edge but she is there. I so wish all of us moms were chatting about soccer or baseball or dance but we chat about therapies and schools and ESY. We all put on a brave front. We all are so happy to connect with other parents who get it. At the end of the day, it still sucks. I know that some say they dont want a cure for their childs disability because the great parts of it make the child who he is. I for one do want a cure but just keep my daughters loving, charming and outgoing personality intact. OK end of rant. Thanks for listening. What activities is your child involved with that allow you to connect with other moms (or dads) with kids like your who get it?
