This week marks 40 years since the end of the US Military - TopicsExpress

This week marks 40 years since the end of the US Military involvement in the Vietnam war. Cluster munition remnants and other ERW continue to cost lives and limbs in Vietnam, including those of scrap metal collectors desperate to earn a living. While clearance operators, including several Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) members, are already busy clearing the deadly legacy, the CMC urges Vietnam to come on board the life-saving Convention on Cluster Munitions. Joining the convention would increase Vietnam’s capacity to carry out much needed clearance and provide assistance to victims. Countries will be gathering in Lusaka, Zambia next month for the Fourth Meeting of State Parties to the convention, including discussion of plans for promoting global adoption of the treaty.
