This week marks Seniors Week in Tasmania. It is not a significant week on the calendar just yet but it will hopefully grow over the next few years to become more widely recognised. For the week, we are outlining the significance and importance of exercise for all seniors! There is a never-ending list of benefits for this age group including prevention and/or management of blood pressure issues, Diabetes, heart conditions, Osteoporosis, Arthritis and mental health. Exercise is also a powerful tool to maintain general function and lower the risk of falls in the elderly. Ivy (pictured) is a testament to this, showing that the addition of suitable exercise into an already active lifestyle can preserve functional capabilities and delay the ageing process! Our Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists here at Coastal Physiotherapy are both highly qualified to deliver safe and appropriate exercise for the senior population, in addition to offering advice with pre-existing medical and/or musculoskeletal issues. If you would like to know more about how input from an EP or Physiotherapist would benefit you, a parent or indeed a grandparent, contact Coastal Physiotherapy on 64314586 to discuss a suitable option! In the mean-time keep the brain and body active and help us celebrate the contribution that senior Australians have made!!
