This week marks the opening of the Wildlife ACT volunteer project on Somkhanda Game Reserve. The project was initiated so that Wildlife ACT can assist with the day to day monitoring of the newly introduced African wild dog,s as well as assisting the Wildlife ACT Fund and Wildlands Conservation Trust rhino monitors with updating ID kits for this important rhino population. Camera trapping is going to form an important part of the work we do on the reserve. Wildlands Conservation Trust has recently introduced 5 African wild dogs to the reserve. The reserve is also frequented by a male wild dog Thor and Malika, a female from iMfolozi, these well-known dispersers made their own way to Somkhanda. Post and photograph by Axel Wildlife-Act
