This week on #FrankstonFaces we have the gorgeous Zac Damiani (pictured below). A young photographer with big dreams. Zac’s story: Ive grown up along the Peninsula and have explored everywhere from the back beaches to the back alleys. I had my first job at Boost Juice in Bayside Shopping Centre where I was introduced to retail and the Frankston customer. I was there for 2 years before going to work for Jac n Jean in 2011. Jac n Jean is an amazing place to work that really understands the Frankston customer. Frankston feels like a community and it is very different to many parts of Melbourne and Jac n Jean understands that and really makes all its customers feel comfortable. We go further than just selling clothes. We really do care about the person and Ive made many life-long friendships from working there. My favourite part about Frankston is the fact it’s a town with all the comforts of city living but conveniently on the beach. I love walking along the beach in the morning or laying on the sand in summer. It’s an amazing beach, you could be anywhere in the world. Frankston has provided me with many backdrops for my fashion photography. Having the connection with Jac n Jean Ive been able to borrow men and women street wear clothing, gather some local, agency standard models and go exploring around Frankston’s back alleys looking for sneaky graffiti spots and grungy areas (the genre of my fashion photography is very grunge/street). My first publication, VAGRANT is 96 pages of men and women fashion and covers everything from graffiti to the beach, black and white, colour and an exploration of the Mornington Peninsula and St Kilda. For me it wasnt just about the fashion, I loved jumping fences, running across train tracks following in the footsteps of the graffiti artist, all to find the perfect locations. I got 100 copies of my magazine made so I plan on sending them out to labels featured in the magazine from Sydney and Melbourne as well as fashion/modelling agencies and professional photographers wanting assistants. I also plan on taking 20-30 copies over with me to the United States next year as I will be working at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for 6 months. Ive already sussed out some street wear labels in Orlando and Miami and I really hope I can develop networks over there whilst having my base in Disney World. Now that my University degree is over (3 years Bachelor Degree in Photography at RMIT) I am so excited for the future and where my chosen career will take me. My love for photography really does come from where Ive grown up and the local community that is Frankston and surrounding areas. How can you not be inspired by a place with so many things to explore in an amazing location. Frankston does have a stigma of being boganish and full of junkies but until you live here you cant judge. Yes there’s the occasional weirdo walking around Wells Street but from where Frankston was to where it is now, the improvements are awesome. Happy to call Frankston home! We certainly wish Zac all the best in the US and know that he will achieve whatever he sets out to do in life. It takes a strong and driven person to take a leap and strive for success on a world stage. We are lucky enough to feature several of Zacs magazine photographs in this post. What a talent. We know that we will be flicking through a magazine and see photography by Zac Damiani one day in the near future!!!
