This week on Show us your quiver - one of sunsets eldest groms. Always smiling and in the water nearly as much as his dad - This is Hobo (pronounced hob-o) and these are his whips. First up is my alien a grom board that I got for my birthday when I was 14. Since it was my first blank board with no design on it, I decided to do my first ever spray logo/design which ended up being an alien flipping the bird. I havent ridden it in about 2 years, but from what I can remember it suited my style exceptionally. Unfortunately I grew up a bit and needed a new stick. Next is the rasta bean a board shaped by aloha surfboards, the original model name is called the bean. Its fitted with future flex the carbon fibre technology that gives it that special edge that they are famous for. This is my only non-DGS board but definitely one of my favourites. I landed my first air with it which makes it quite sentimental to me. Its been everywhere with me from South Africa to Indonesia and I hope to take it to new breaks every year. Next up is the pink fish, my sisters board. This is the first swallow tail board we have ever owned. I have out-grown it and I find it way too big to ride. But its still part of the family... For now. Fourthly is the Nemo the smallest, yet fattest, addition to the DGS family that we have. This is the board responsible for my old mans famous 360s at sunset beach. Normally ridden with a twin-fin setup. The Flying Steak is at number 5. A 58 carving machine, incredible on rail turns and laybacks. The board itself is probably the thinnest of the bunch so the old man says that it is too under-buoyant for him. At number 6 is the Green Mumba the fastest board we own by far. Im really not sure what makes this board so fast. Is it the shape? The fins? Wherever I look for an answer to that question on the board, I just cant seem to find it. It needs to be studied more thats for sure. And the grand finale! The Boom Slang which is Afrikaans for tree snake because of the snake design on the top side of the deck. This one is significantly special, not because it is an exceptional board to ride (which it is) but because it has three signatures from the members of the famous metal band Metallica on the bottom of the deck! It was ridden at the wavepool along with one other board (not in the picture) by the band members. To say thanks for letting them use our boards they signed the bottom of the Boom Slang rendering it unsurfable... Totally worth it.
