This week, the 20th International AIDS Society Conference is taking place in Melbourne, Australia. At this meeting, UNICEF is calling on attention to adolescents – globally, AIDS-related deaths among adolescents increased by 50 per cent between 2005 and 2012 while they fell by 30 per cent across all other ages. But if we increase investments in high-impact interventions that target most at risk, two million new infections among adolescents can be averted between now and 2020. An AIDS-free generation, in which all children are born free of HIV, is within reach… but cannot be achieved without focusing more on adolescents.
