This week the 6 inch water well was drilled. At a depth of 122 - TopicsExpress

This week the 6 inch water well was drilled. At a depth of 122 feet we were at 10 gallons per minute with only 2 ppm iron, which is pretty good in this country. The new water source will better allow us to comply with USDA and FDA sanitation guidelines. Under current USDA guidelines water has to be tested annually for bacteria and metals. In our small operation we hauled equipment to our camp for proper sanitation and USDA compliance. That would be impossible with our large tanks in use today. The new water well was essential. Next major task is for Public Service to bury our power line about 9,000 feet to the sugar shack. The "right of way" has been surveyed and cleared. We are scheduled for late October for line construction. The power line will go past my syrup shack and connect about 3/4 mile deeper into the woods to the neighboring maple syrup operation. Our sugarbush, and that of our neighbors are quite remote by Wisconsin standards. Lots of wolves, bears, bobcats and the occasional cougar sighting.
