This week the Mendota Fire Department would like to introduce Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Fisher. Brian was hired by the City of Mendota back in February 1994 as a Firefighter/EMT. He was the first Illinois Licensed Paramedic employed by the City of Mendota. Throughout Brians career, he has amassed a pretty extensive list of training and certifications in a wide variety of areas. In regards to Emergency Medical Care, Brian obtained his original EMT-Basic license in 1979. Since then he has obtained his Paramedic License as well as becoming an Instructor in CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He received additional medical training which has allowed him to take Specialty Care Ambulance Transfers for those patients receiving specialized medications or who are intubated and on a ventilator. On the Fire side, Brian has obtained the following certifications through the Illinois State Fire Marshals Office: Firefighter III, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Fire Service Vehicle Operator, Instructor II, Fire Officer I, and Hazardous-Materials Technician Level B. He is one of the original members of LaSalle County MABAS Division 25s Technical Rescue Team which required him to obtain further training. He then obtained Technician Level certification in Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse, Surface Ice Rescue, and most recently became a Swift Water Rescue Technician. He originally was an active member of the TRT & Hazardous-Materials Response Team, but is now with TRT & the Water Rescue Team through MABAS Division 25. Brian and his wife Joellen (a 911 Telecommunicator for the Mendota Police Department) have two sons. One son Jeremy recently decided to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a firefighter in the state of California.
