This week the earned paid sick leave discussion has elevated a few decimals. Early yesterday I had the city manager inform the county that the city attorney had researched and determined that the Lane County government would,by law,be exempted from the ordinance. Council had long thought that would be the case. Led by Commissioner Bozievich, the BCC is considering an ordinance that would: prohibit any city within Lane County from passing laws that mandate any employment conditions-including wages and benefits. Another would exempt all Lane County businesses from the ordinance if they are outside the city limits and the third would exempt all county employees and all county future contractors.
