This week, we lost another family member...my brother-in-law, Phillip Strickland. Ive written 4 obituaries in 9 months, but my husband has lost his father, his grandfather, his only sister, his only brother, and my daddy who was a friend, mentor, and second father to him. Ive never seen anything like it. Please keep my husband and his mother in your prayers. In Phillips obituary, I tried to be as honest and sensitive as possible. You see, our Phillip was one of the most charismatic, musically gifted people Ive ever known, but he also suffered from mental illness. He was text book bipolar, and clinically diagnosed as such. His functionality and ability to manage his life were severely compromised due to this disease and addiction (which often accompanies mental illness), even garnishing him a few run-ins with the law. We loved him, but in the end, like so many, we could not save him. We dont know all the circumstances of his death, however it appears to be of natural cause, a heart attack specifically. He had been on so many medications over the years for his mental illness, most of which were prescribed, and occasion, abused. We believe it all just took a toll on his heart and health. I say all this in the spirit of truth and love, and to honor him and all of you. I believe God moves in truth, and when we share our truths, he is able to use us to the the fullest. No matter what it may be, or how ugly you think it is, God the creator wastes nothing. He uses it all, every detail or so called skeleton in the closet is redemption waiting to be revealed. Praise God. May you finally rest in peace, with the angels, dear Phillip. We miss you and we will love you forever. All My Love, Julia Nelson Strickland
