This week we welcomed 5 new additions to our mini beast house in the shape of Cairo Spiny Mice! Native to the rocky areas and hot deserts of Northern Africa, the back end of a spiny mouse is covered in tough spiny hairs, similar to the prickles of a hedgehog although not as rigid. These spines are thought to protect the mouse from predators such as owls We have also found that these mice are very difficult to photograph due to their inability to stay still for more than a few seconds!!
