This week wed like to highlight and thank our Meezer Express drivers who make our program so successful by moving our Meezers from shelter to foster and foster to home. From one of our Transport Coordinators, LaShawn, who oversees the western edges of our coverage area: Without the time, travel, gas, early mornings, late-nights that our drivers donate to Siamese Rescue for their love of the cats, we would not be able to get hundreds of rescued meezers to their new homes. I’ve had drivers on fixed income, budget their meager extra for gas money for trips. Others have swapped vehicles with friends or family to get a 4x4 in order to make a snowy mid-west winter trip to get a carload of meezers to their new families. Last week a brand-new driver brought an adopted kitty, in the middle of a drifting snow-storm all the way from Illinois to basically Michigan. One driver who travels between homes in Ohio and Virginia will regularly take an adopted kitty ONE-WAY to their new family. Once, a big trip through southern Indiana for two kittens, had a major snafu – a driver who had signed up for a double leg through an area rarely traveled fell, broke her ankle and ended up in the hospital the night before transport. We had no idea. The driver, ahem, superwoman, in front of her drove those TWO legs plus her own, stayed overnight in a different city and headed back home the next day in order to get the gals home. As you can see, these self-less drivers make a Transport Coordinator look GOOD! It can be easy to forget the true importance of the meezer expressers, but they really are my, and the meezers, hero’s!
