This week were in Boston, MA at Jubilee Christian Church. One of my spiritual grandsons is being promoted to the Senior Pastor position. His father, Bishop Gideon Thompson, a tremendous servant of the Lord, Intercessor, Church Planter, Worshipper, and spiritual father to many pastors across the nation will pass the mantle. The uniqueness of this transition is that Matthews father will be very much a part of his ongoing success. Gideon, will not be translated on Friday! Tomorrow will be a moment of sharing life in a very special way with many of the uncles and aunts present to honor both of these gifted servants. Solomon expressed his angst in the Book of Ecclesiastes as he contemplated who is successor would be. He realized that all that he had done would eventually be in the hands of a wise man or a fool. Unfortunately, the son who followed Solomon was Rehoboam, who was a fool in as much he failed to follow the advice of wiser men. Someone once told me that God wants to demonstrate how more than one generation can lead a group of people into their next season. Matthew and his wife Mona, have been superbly equipped for their time. They honor past values, they honor the spiritual fathers, Bishop Gideon and Pastor Yvonne who gave birth to the ministry, and they have a deep and passionate love for God who has done all of this. As C.S. Lewis would say, Further up and further in. And yet, at the same time; my wife Pastor Barbara and I visited with a really dear friend in the same metro area, Pastor David Midwood, a respected voice in the Boston church community. David gave leadership to one of the historic ministries called Vision New England. He has been a faithful pastor, loving husband and father and a spiritual father to many who would never have known what it was like to have a father. David, according to all of the medical opinions is in the last few days of his life, as the result of Stage Four Cancer. A few hours ago, we stood around his bed and ask the Father for a miracle. Pastor Barbara, who has seen many miracles for persons in their last stages of life, ask the Father for one more. She wisely conceded that in any event, we win either way, But like my friend declared, I refuse to give ground to any concept that accepts defeat as the will of God. While we do not fully understand the measure of sickness and the mystery of some healed and some not -- lets hold to promise of healing, with a fuller understanding of the questions to be resolved in another season. For this reason, I ask you to join us, Davids wife Louise, his daughters, and Pastor Barbara and me in asking the Father for a supernatural intervention of God. James said, The effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much. Around Davids bed, I sang one of their favorite songs: Knowing You and then listened to Kristene DeMarco sing, It Is Well This song, the original, came from the story of the Shunammite woman whos child was dead, and yet continued in her quest for restoration with her constant confession. It shall be well. Please join us in praying for Davids total recovery, you can lift him into the Presence of Jesus, no matter where you are on the globe. In HIM BJG
