This weekend I had the opportunity to attend a wonderful gathering at the lovely, newly acquired home of my life long friend, and ardent political enthusiast, TQ and his charming wife, Liz. Their gracious hospitality was superseded only by the warm inviting tone of being amidst a group of dynamic and engaging people whose friendships go back as far as 55 years! I suppose I could speak to an entire array of emotions that invariably overcome me when these less and less frequent occasions present themselves. I could address a profound sadness that is always quietly evoked in me by an inescapable recognition of the indifference and unforgiving nature of passing time. I could speak to the resignation I feel, seeing familiar dynamic and vibrant life forces Ive always known, desperately trying to peek out from behind weathered skin........aging beings slowly and methodically dismantled by physical decay and the relentless, unyielding march toward departure from the physical world. For most of us, its difficult to reconcile such dramatic change. Its difficult for anyone to consider the cessation of existence, and its probable that all of us, in one way or another, spend time embracing ideology or philosophy that perpetuates life beyond earthly bonds. For now, I hope to spend every ounce of the time I do have, putting my arms around what I know in the most absolute terms, to be the single greatest truth this life has offered. I know love is true. I know love is as real and as essential as the air we breathe. I know I have only love for the dynamic, colorful human beings I have been privileged to be surrounded by since my childhood. I know I have only the deepest, most powerful love imaginable for the beautiful family Ive been blessed with. And, perhaps most importantly, I know I have only the most boundless love for those fellow human beings that continue to use their time here guided not by hatred, or greed, or a destructive spirit, but by generosity, compassion, understanding, and tireless benevolence and good will!
