This weekend I met a woman who, in January 2005, survived a TERRIFYING storm at sea. Originally from South Africa, she moved to the US a long time ago. In college while in the US, she went on a college trip called Semester at Sea. She joined about 600 other college students on a whirlwind sea voyage on a cruise liner that was supposed to stop at 10 different countries. On the way from the US, about 650 miles off the coast of Alaska on their way to Pusan, South Korea her ship hit a HUGE STORM. Here is a video from The Weather Channel that tells what she went through. Today, Tamelin, the woman I met who survived, told the people and I at the church I was at that while she was on the ship she was reminded of the storm at sea in the Bible that Jesus was on while the disciples were freaking out. She said that the Holy Spirit gave her a sense of peace in the chaos. So instead of having a panic attack, she sang a worship song as she and her other college friends and everyone put on their life jackets and as they were going through the roughest parts of the ordeal. She said that people around her became calm and were even trying to cling onto her. In the midst of the chaos she was a beacon of light because of Jesus Christ. youtube/watch?v=6DBGhXI586k
