This weekend, among MANY other adventures, I met three amazing elderly gentlemen named Andy, Bob, and Miles. Now, these guys saw me in various levels of rubber gear and although they werent in the community I was able to serve as a conduit of education on why I liked the community and why we have events like the Mr. New England Rubber Weekend. As we were leaving town I saw them one last time and as I hugged them goodbye I realized something: I may be too social sometimes. I literally try to make friends with every stranger I meet. But it has its benefits. These men now see that the legacy of their sacrifice and challenges of being out has paved the way for young men like me to be a drag queen one night and a rubber boy the next. I can be me because they dared to be themselves.
