This weekend at Grace Family Church A message from Mark van Straaten. If you are anything like me, you have an opinion about most things. Again, if you are anything like me you have expressed an opinion about something or someone, and you’ve done so without really having all the information or the background. Then you discover the background to the thing that you are expressing your opinion about, and realize that your opinion was wrong! A little understanding and more info can mess with your original opinions and judgments! Listen to the words of Jesus: You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone. And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me. – Jn 8:15 &16. This weekend we start an exciting series called, “What would the church say to…” and we are going to look at five people - Katy Perry, Pope Francis, Justin Bieber, Lance Armstrong and John Lennon. Think about what we as the church would or should say to these people? Of course, we will then try to filter our thinking and “judgments” through what the Bible says, and in doing so, perhaps we will experience some changes in our own lives and opinions…you know what I mean?... “and why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?” said Jesus in Matt 7:3. It’s going to be an interesting series – I think this is certainly the kind of series you can invite someone to. Now – please note; during this series each of our preachers are preparing one talk and will be preaching it at the various campuses. This means one or two of the people we have chosen will not be dealt with at every campus and if you vary your attendance to different times and venues, then maybe you will want to make sure you don’t hear the same message twice. (unless you want to!) Check our social media and this E-Update to confirm which message will be preached @ which service and campus. For example this Sunday, we’re going to ask the question, What would the church say to… Lance Armstrong – @ Umhlanga @ both morning services. Pope Frances – @ Riverside @ both morning services and Umhlanga @ both evening services Katy Perry - @ Ballito. Next Sunday, every service will have a different character. See you this Sunday.
