This weekend has proven challenging in the NOPDs 8th District, and Im not just talking about this mornings shooting that left many people injured on the 700 block of Bourbon. Since Friday, ProjectNOLA has assisted detectives investigating multiple robberies and is now reviewing crime camera footage concerning the shooting. While we are able to quickly analyze video footage from our network of HD crime cameras, I ask that area residents and business owners PLEASE review any private surveillance cameras that they may have access to. Given the NOPD manpower shortage, it would also be EXTREMELY helpful should you make notes when reviewing your private surveillance footage (including references to the time stamp) and deliver a copy of your footage, notes and contact information to the 8th District Station. The NOPDs video forensics unit and ProjectNOLA stand ready to enhance poor quality surveillance footage. In closing... I plead for more 8th District residents and business owners to PLEASE participate with ProjectNOLA by either allowing our 501c3 non-profit foundation access to existing surveillance cameras that view a public thoroughfare, or call to us at 298-9117 to host one or more of our ProjectNOLA HD crime cameras! ProjectNOLA often assists NOPD detectives in REAL-TIME as they are responding to a crime or crisis, dramatically increasing NOPD efficiency while helping to enhance public safety. For example, while the NOPD was responding to a robbery that occurred in the Marigny Friday night, ProjectNOLA was able to begin providing vital information directly to the responding detectives within 2 minutes of their requesting assistance. In the minutes that followed, I uploaded snapshots and videos from multiple crime cameras spanning multiple city blocks to our ProjectNOLA / 8th District shared server, which provides instant access to NOPD detectives. As the NOPD manpower issue becomes more critical with every passing day, so does the need for more ProjectNOLA crime cameras. The fewer the NOPD officers, the greater the need for increased efficiency and citizen participation. Please call us at 298-9117 today should you wish to learn more or participate with ProjectNOLA.
