This weekend is our final screening before our winter break. Swanpool Cinema reopens on Friday September 6 with Song For Marion and Rust & Bone. This weekend we present Zero Dark Thirty plus selected shorts before intermission. Screening times this weekend are, Friday 28 June 7:30 pm Saturday 29 June 7:30 pm Sunday 30 June 5.00 pm Zero Dark Thirty (M) 157 mins. USA 2013. Dir: Kathryn Bigelow. Stars: Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Kylie Chandler Zero Dark Thirty is a military term for 30 minutes after midnight as well as code for ‘under the cover of darkness’. It is also the time that the Navy Seal helicopters took to the skies on their mission to eliminate the world’s most wanted man. Finally, it serves as a metaphor for the decade long, relentless pursuit of Osama bin Laden. The movie is utterly gripping, an authoritative, precise, and largely dispassionate account of how CIA analysts in Pakistan worked. The film demonstrates that it wasn’t torture that led us to bin Laden, but clear thinking, sophisticated surveillance and determination. totalfilm/reviews/cinema/zero-dark-thirty During our winter break the Bald Archy Exhibition will be presented in the cinema from 9th to 25th August. An exhibition of portrait paintings of humour, dark satire, light comedy and caricature. baldarchy.au/
