This weekend marks the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Hugos - TopicsExpress

This weekend marks the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Hugos approach and landfall onto the South Carolina coastline. The center came ashore on September 22 just north of Charleston at Sullivans Island as a Category 4 hurricane with estimated maximum winds of 135-140 mph. The National Weather Service forecast office in Charleston has put together a great commemorative weblink. It includes a video series that looks back before, during and after the storm, explains storm surge and why it could have been much worse, and discusses some of the things that have changed since 1989. Another highlight is an interactive map of the storms track, impacts and storm surge, developed by NOAAs Coastal Services Center. Heres the link: weather.gov/chs/Hugo25thAnniversary
