This weekend, the old soldiers of Hawaii and their collective - TopicsExpress

This weekend, the old soldiers of Hawaii and their collective gathered in Tacoma. The usual resources available for them plus in turn the treat was to watch in concert Makaha Sons. Used to be known as Makaha Sons of Nihiau (msp) . Included in the latter group was the famous Braddah Iz. Needless to say it was an uplifting, emotional awe-inspiring presentation of traditional Hawaiian song. I do not know where this assimilation of mine for Hawaiian music comes from. It is said that a female will acquire the culture of her mate once married. My love for Hawaii started in 1st grade with Mrs. Nell Palmer at Skinner Elementary in Brownsville, Texas. She taught me how to perform the hooki lau. That coupled with the peacocks across the street from my childhood home ... paved the road to my love for paradise. The city fathers from my home town had ventured to Hawaii and returned with native Pacific Islander plants that could thrive in our Texas soil. Friends of my mother that had huge tropical gardens shared this information with me. Again all this information and surroundings were a constant for me in forging the dream of living in Hawaii. Last night, I was privy to Uncles of varying ages, musical gifts and elegant Native wahines and their talents in an impromptu jam session. No island breezes, no white sandy beaches, no lau lau but oooooo, the spirit of Aloha. So innocent and pure. I am thankful for simple abundance and for the ability to appreciate another culture.
