This weeks Ask the Expert is with Nina Jones of Jonesy Charismatic Stationery. I met Nina when I was in the Pop-up Shop and have carried her cards, notebooks and pens since the beginning. Jonesy has generously offered to us exclusively, a free stamp with every card purchased this month to celebrate Letter Writing Month and to kick it off, I asked Nina her inspiration for starting a stationery business: I have always loved to doodle, sketch and create things with my hands and after getting a BA in Anthropology and Fine Art, I wanted to learn more. I then went to George Brown for Graphic Design. While designing my own wedding invitations, it was then that a spark lit in my head… THIS is what I want to do. Then I asked what is it about paper and the written word that you like and recommend as a communication method? I have such fond memories of sitting down and writing my parents and friends, pen pals and writing far away relatives. I miss writing those long letters, but also appreciate the speed in which email and other technologies can keep you in touch. It doesn’t however take the place of handwriting a thank you, Happy Birthday, Congratulations or thinking of you. This comes from the heart and hand. If you saw Nina a couple of months ago in Chatelaine magazine, you know she might have a thing or two up her sleeve for the future and I asked if we could share. I am very much looking forward to collaborating with my sister Ashley Botten- an interior designer. We are working on some really neat products that combine both our areas of design. I cant wait to see this and I am tremendously grateful for Nina being part of the team as well.
