This weeks Goddess: Modjadji, Mod-JAD-Ghee, which means Ruler of the Day, is a rain goddess of South Africa. She can transform the clouds Khifidola-maru-a-Daja, because she possesses the secret of creating rain by interacting with the cloud spirits. The goddess Modjadji gave birth to a lineage of human queens bearing the honorary title Modjadji. These queens ruled over the BaLovedu people of South Africa. This succession of tribal queens are said to embody the power of the goddess and trace their linage and rainmaking abilities through her. The story began when a young princess fled with her followers from the Karanga empire in Zimbabwe. Afterward even the Zulu and Swazi warriors held her in awe. There is now a nature preserve called Modjadji, named after this Rain Queen with mysterious powers. This queen also inspired the famous book She, by H. Rider Haggard. Modjadji holds the power to stay in the flow, but faith and will power are required.
