This weeks Heres to your Health-Cut Diabetes Risk A diet that includes berries, red grapes, parsley, thyme, celery, tea, and even chocolate and wine in moderation may be associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, according to new research. These foods contain compounds called flavonoids. Investigators found that eating high levels of flavones and anthocyanins ( certain subgroups of flavonoids) was linked with lower levles of inflammation, lower insulin resistance, and better blood sugar control. Experts say, while the results are exciting, to keep in mind that the study found an association, not a cause-and-effect relationship.
