This weeks High Fives: Congratulations to Tiashionna Dye, Justin Montgomery, and Trinity Stevenson for being selected as the Great Falls Athletes of the Week for Middle School Sports during football season! The School Improvement Council of Lewisville High School has chosen Austin Blanks as the October Student of the Month. Parents, faculty and staff nominated students for this recognition through an online survey based on their school and community involvement. The School Improvement Council members then voted based on the nominations. Austin, a senior, is a dedicated LHS student who is always willing to help anyone in need. He is polite and hard-working and makes others feel welcome. He is an independent worker who takes responsibility for himself and his school work. It is this independence that has prepared him for life as a graduate of Lewisville High School. High Five Austin! High Fives to the following CCSD Best Practice meeting facilitators: Nequi Dunlap, Ethel Moyd, Rachel McAbee, Jackie Lowry, Angela Waldrop, Carol Germain, Johnathan Ferguson, Michael Lowry, Dana Williams, Erica Raheja, Latonya Strong, Latrekka Rivers, Amanda Covington, Mandy Freeman, Kellie Watson, Malissa Ann Giles, Reginald Iracks, Wayne Worthy, Eric Park, Kenneth Schofield, Brittany Bradshaw, Laura Dean, Carole Jordan, Alice Willis, Alisha Green, Abby Brunson, Susan Kovas, Pat Buehrig, and DuPre Clack. High Five to the Great Falls Elementary PTO and Marah Strickland for organizing a workshop on internet safety. Mrs. Strickland discussed the importance of responsible and safe technology use for students and parents. Thank you to the people who attended! High Five to the civic-minded students and clubs at Chester High School who are sponsoring a canned food drive, a blood drive, and Operation Christmas Child collection. Members of the Student Council, Spanish Club, and Junior Civatans are still accepting donations of canned/dried foods and items for OCC shoeboxes--new toys, books, stationery, clothing, personal hygiene items, etc. High Five to Team 801 students of the week at Chester Middle School: Uniqua Heath, Jaylyn Cohens, Rebekah Huey, Kamryn Evans. A big High Five and thank you to Mr. Terry Graham and Mr. Earl Moore who volunteered their time to come to Chester Park School of Inquiry to help with the Student Council Election. Students had the opportunity to vote using actual poll machines that are used in real elections! It was a priceless experience for our students as they learn how to become good citizens. High Five and thank you to veterans from the American Legion in Rock Hill who presented the Flags for First Grade program at Lewisville Elementary. The students learned about the history of the flag, the national anthem and the Pedge of Allegiance. The Great Falls Sr. High Beta Club packed boxes for Operation Christmas child at their Oct. 29th meeting. The club sold Chick-Fil-A sandwiches after school to help cover the shipping costs of $7 per box. In all, the club members brought enough items to pack boxes for 7 lucky boys and 5 lucky little girls. Way to go Beta members! High Five to members of the Lewisville High School Chorus for performing at the Richburg 125th Anniversary Celebration Drop- on Friday, October 24th at the Gateway. They did an outstanding job! Singers included Sidney Austin, Kendra Cloud, Tiffany Hubbard, Anna King, Noel Nunnery, Kayley ODonnell, Brianna Ross, Savannah Seegars, DeAnna Spears, Joseph Teems, Shania Truax, and Kedrian White. Chester Park School of Inquiry would like to give a High Five to all the students who campaigned for Student Council positions. All the students did an excellent job with their campaign speeches. Congratulations to the following winners: StarLecia Foster, President; Raven Alexander, Vice-President; JaiDen Stringfellow, Secretary; Brittney Stokes, Treasurer. Special thanks to Mr. Edmond, Assistant Principal, who sponsors student council at the School of Inquiry. Great job STARS of Inquiry! High Five to the Chester Middle School football team for finishing their season undefeated. Way to go! High Fives to Coach Kirk Cannon, Coach Keith Taylor and Coach Ned Holley for consistently producing winning teams! Thank you and High Five to our school nurses for organizing and assisting DHEC in successful flu clinics across the district for our students this past week. High Five to Mrs. Dunhams 6th Block class at Chester Middle School (V.I.P. Squad) for winning the October Extravaganza! Congratulations to Great Falls Cross Country Team. The boys and girls team placed third in Region 3-A. Thomas Mills, for the second year in a row, was selected All-Region posting a 3 mile run in 18:29. His placed third in the boys division. Thomas Mills and Candace Baker will complete at state finals 1A on Nov 8th in Columbia. We collected 1,730 Box Tops in the first nine weeks at Chester Park COLT. We will receive a check for $173 for COLT PTO in December. Thank you, parents! High Five to all the people who came out to support the Chester Middle School Cheerleaders at the Chinese Auction. Over $1000 was raised! High Five to the Chester Middle School Cheerleaders and their parents for all of their hard work to make this fundraiser a success! High Five to the Great Falls High football players and cheerleaders for being reading mentors at Great Falls Elementary. High Five to Ms. Stephanie Barber and Mrs. Donna Rollins for organizing a Read-a-Thon. The Read-a -Thon total collection was $860.45. Highest collector 1st place- Hailee Rape-$161 (Ms. Spencers 3rd grade class), 2nd place-Hunter Cole Branham-$100 (Mrs. Prices PreK class), tied for 3rd place-Makenzie Messer (Mrs. Prices PreK class)& Mason Alexander (Ms. Burtons Kindergarten class) -$50. High Five to everyone who helped and participated in Chester Middle Schools first ever intramurals- it was a success! The Chester County Career Center is pleased to announce the students of the first quarter of the 2014-15 school year. Teachers select a student from each class based on grades, attendance, cooperation, courtesy, personal appearance, honesty and responsibility.
