This weeks Parsha Massei finds us poised on the edge of the Promised Land, recounting the 42 journeys we took during the years of wandering in the Wilderness. A pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night followed them, the food of angels fell from the sky to sustain them, and yet it wasnt the ecstatic high of a miraculously liberated people which prepared them to inherit The Land. Patience, faith, courage, rejection of false idols, learning how to tell the difference between true leadership and false promises, and the time it took for fear and doubt to die away prepared the people to receive their inheritance.
