This weeks Planning for St Barts House.... The baby room will be concentrating on using materials to create dens in their new cosy area. Animals are the theme with a display showing the children’s animal prints, a peek-a-boo display of animals and various animal print small world objects associated with the safari. Animal songs, such as walking through the jungle will be sung and animal puppets will be used to bring books to life. Binoculars will be made with cardboard for the babies to look through at their carer and spot the animals and treasure baskets will be available for the babies to explore small animals within shredded paper. The toddlers will be looking at animals after building a new den area for the children to read in and explore animal puppets. Towards the end of the first week Halloween will be celebrated by making spider and bats webs using paper plates and exploring jelly which will have bugs hidden in it. Pumpkins will be carved and the children will enjoy and take part in the Halloween party at the end of the week where we will ask parents to dress their children in a scary fashion, if they wish. Lower Pre-School are exploring colour, they will be looking at the primary colours and how they change when they are mixed. Using a variety of different media the effects of colour will be shown through the use of ice and water, ice cubes paints will be made with the children for them to paint with later. The children will continue to add to their sensory garden and add a few spooky items to add to the haunted tree in readiness for Halloween towards the end of the first week. Pre-School are learning all about space. A variety of the planets are being made from different media to display on the board in the room. CD’s have been used to make smaller planets which the children have painted and incorporated into their spaceship. An interest table is set up showing a variety of books and items related to space. Junk modelling is available to build rockets and items which the children decide to take into space with them. Group discussions take place each day and the children share with their friends what they would like to take with them into space, which makes for interesting listening! Pre-School will also be learning about energy through eating and fuel to fire rockets, educational books and the internet will be used to teach the children about the gases, heat and cold temperatures which are associated with different planets.
