This weeks Wildcat Fan of the Week goes to Mrs. Mary Lu Grant! The year was 1953. Mary Lu (Measles) Grant had moved to Littlefield from Olton and married Billy Tom Grant, a graduate of the Littlefield Wildcat Class of 1947…… and she became a “FOREVER” LITTLEFIELD WILDCAT FAN! For the next 54 years, she could be found almost every FRIDAY night in a stadium or gym cheering on the CATS! (Her husband Billy Tom had a perfect attendance record at varsity WILDCAT FOOTBALL GAMES for 37 seasons straight!) A graduate of Texas Tech University, Mary Lu was a teacher at Littlefield ISD for 30 years. Her three daughters-Shelly Hackler, Sharla Schaffner, and Shalyn Cowan- attended Littlefield schools from 1st through 12th grades. In addition, five of her seven grandchildren graduated from Littlefield High School. Due to health and mobility issues, the Grants reluctantly gave up their reserved seats in WILDCAT stadium when their youngest grandson completed his senior year of football in 2007. HOWEVER….. Mary Lu can still be found listening to KZZN radio whenever there is a WILDCAT game being broadcast……and each and every Friday, she can be seen around town, adorned in plenty of maroon and white! Even at age 80, she STILL BELIEVES in WILDCAT MAGIC….and that is why she is our LITTLEFIELD WILDCAT fan of the week!
