This weeks about komono (小物について) is about obiage 帯揚げ. These are a scarf like piece of fabric that covers the obi makura (a cushion that holds out and helps shape some style of obi knot in particular the very common otaiko style) and is tied in front. The amount of obiage recommended to be visible at the front varies on age, formality of dress and personal style. The one in the photo is an Oxfam scarf I bought for the purpose. Op shops are a great source of re adaptable obijime. I think Im finally figuring out how to tie it neatly and am keen to show anyone who is interested.
