This weeks readings are: Genesis 37:1-40:23 Amos 2:6-3:8 John 2:13-4:42 The ninth reading from the Book of Genesis is named Vayeshev (וישב), which means “and he dwelt”. The title comes from the first verse of the reading, which says, “Now Jacob dwelt in the Land where his father had sojourned, in the Land of Canaan” (Genesis 37:1). Despite the portion’s name and first verse, the story is actually about Jacob’s son Joseph and how he was removed from the Land of Canaan and dwelt in Egypt. The narrative follows Joseph from Canaan to Egypt to prison. In addition, this week’s reading contains the story of Judah and Tamar. There is really SO MUCH in this weeks reading!! Here are some great guidelines in what to study and DIG DEEPER into, when going through the weekly readings ... 1) LIFE APPLICATION: Think about what lessons you can learn from the portion, which you can walk-out in your daily life. Some portions contain straightforward Instructions from YHVH (GOD the FATHER) — others, life-principles ... some portions have what we see today as strange Commandments — but there is ALWAYS some lesson we can learn, and some kind of INSTRUCTION we can live-out in our walk ... after all, the Torah especially is GODs Instructions/Teaching to us His children, for our protection and BLESSING. 2) PROPHECY — THE BIGGER PICTURE: We will always face the pitfall of making EVERYTHING — even our walk with YHVH — about US, about OURSELVES, and our little worlds. Prophecy and seeing the BIGGER picture — of what GOD is doing upon the earth and in the Body, of His Plan of Restoration and REDEMPTION — is meant to guard and keep us from being SELF-focused and temporally/worldly-minded. When we keep up with and continue to study BIBLICALLY-based PROPHECY, and keep the bigger picture of what GOD is doing in perspective ... ourselves, our problems/trails/issues, family, work, etc. all fall into proper focus. We REMEMBER and understand we are part of a PLAN — GODs Plan — of something bigger than ourselves. Note, prophecy and end times does NOT mean we dont care for ourselves (in the right sense, and in terms of dealing with our issues, inner healing, etc.), our families, work, and so forth — it is prophecy that keeps all these in proper PERSPECTIVE ... prophecy is a LIGHT in dark times ... and is also meant to keep us AWAKE, watchful, vigilant — guarding against DECEPTION (that is so rife in the world today) — and will keep us REMINDED, as the BRIDE, to be keeping our Robes clean and white, READY for our coming Bridegroom and KING!! 3) LOOK FOR YSHUA (JESUS) — Yshua tells us ALL the Scriptures speak of Him — Hes there in every page ... and as HE is our Ultimate Teacher and Rabbi — Who we are to imitate and FOLLOW after, as HIS disciples — we MUST be looking for Yshua and filtering/interpreting all the Scriptures through HIM. He came to properly teach, fulfill, and interpret the FATHERS Torah/Instructions/Ways ... YSHUA (and all that He is) MUST remain our FOCUS. This will guard us against deception and legalism (as Yshua taught the SPIRIT of the Law/Torah, not only the letter-Instruction) — abiding in YSHUA, the Vine, will keep us nourished and producing FRUIT (John 14-15). 4) WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH — Diligently study the Word, be a good Berean ... but do not neglect the SPIRIT (Ruach) — He is our Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby, Teacher, Who will lead us into ALL TRUTH ... we NEED Him!! Walk in SPIRIT and TRUTH. These are some main guidelines, and are helpful as we study of the Scriptures ... May YHVH grant us the Spirit of REVELATION — may He speak to us (individually) — teach and guide us through HIS WORD — and may we see the WONDERS in His Torah/Word!! (Psalm 119:18) MANY blessings!!
