This weeks shot saver: When, for example: ■ your lie is bad, or ■ your intended direction is blocked by a tree, or ■ your swing is made awkward by a bush always check for any casual water than can save you. Casual water is any temporary accumulation of water on the course not in a water hazard, like a puddle. If your ball or stance is in it, you can freely drop away from it. That might just give you the unobstructed swing or good lie or line you were wishing for. The two common mistakes people make with casual water: 1. Pushing their feet down into the ground hoping water will become visible. You only get a free relief if water becomes visible by naturally taking your stance, not by purposely pushing down. 2. Dropping on the fairway or rough where casual water is still present. If taking relief, you have to go to the nearest *dry* spot, even if thats 20 metres back.
