This what Sammy Khamis our relative and close friend wrote : To Azza , Up until today I could not grasp the words concerning Yassin s death. That’s why I didn’t call. I can’t imagine how you, Adam, Youssef or Mariam. You ya Azza are loosing your husband, your best friend, a loving father, a great intellectual and a huge support for each and everyone around you, around us. Egypt for me doesn’t exist without Yassin. One time I thanked Yassin for one of his countless acts of selfless help as he replied: Stop it ya Sammy, you are just like Adam and Youssef to me. It was the only time he said this, but it was every minute I was in Egypt, that he made me feel I was his son. Yassin is like a father to me, just like Gamal is. There is not one of the countless memories of Egypt that is not directly linked to Yassin. He always had a smart, thoughtful often silent comment on whatever happened. I think ya Azza this is what you heard from everyone who knows Yassin, may it be at the funeral or on facebook. You heard this not because it’s words you say once a man like Yassin passes away, but because it is the truth. That he treated people with love, with respect and with the knowledge that people have the capability to overcome their issues, prejudices and wrongdoings. This is a memory of Yassin I hold deep in my heart. And it is this memory and this thought that Yassin passed on to everyone around him. TO you ya Azza, to Adam, Youssef, Mariam, Emad, Nour, Sharif, me. We all have learned from Yassin. We all could have learned so much more from him. With all that I’m doing I’m looking up to him. His wit, his wisdom, his respect for life, his ability to laugh and his ability to be strong, listening, communicating with all generations alike. Reflecting instead of yelling, thinking instead of shouting. These are thing Yassin taught me. Never like a teacher at school, but as a mutual equal partner and a caring father. Yassin is the most impressive man I know in Egypt, and the along with everyone around him formed the most inspiring family I know. I come to tears when I realize you ya Azza, you ya Yassin, ya Adam, Youssef and Mariam made me part of this family. I can’t find words ya Azza. I am sorry. All I can say is that Yassin is, was and will always be with me, just as he always is with you
