This whole situation is tragic. Its sad but why are we ignoring this young mans behavior leading up to his death? If 18 year old, did what he did, black, white or brown, I would expect this outcome. There were 100 things he could have done to avoid death. 0. Weed in his system(bad choice) 1. He robbed a store in broad daylight(stupid) 2. He assaulted a clerk on camera.(crazy) 3. After the robbery he walked in the middle of the street.(dumb) 4. Mouthed off at the officer when asked to move out of the street.(foolish) 5. Assaulted officer(asking for it) 6. Attempted to get officers gun.(ready to kill/die) 7. Ran from officer.(unwise) 8. Turn around and bumrushed officer when his gun was drawn. (evil) This is horrible behavior for a any young person their way to college. This is why I believe this can become a teachable moment. I wish this could have ended differently but this boy acted like a maniac. Even the officer said he looked like he was on something and was surprised he didnt go down with the first shot. Young people your choices matter. I plan to teach from this all year. So many lessons to learn if we examine our BEHAVIOR before RACE.
