This will be a little longer than I anticipated but something very special has happened to me and I want to share it with those with whom I owe a debt of gratitude. A few weeks ago, I was reached out to by Special Events Magazine informing me that I was nominated as 1 of 25 Young Professionals to Watch in the Special Event Industry. After completing a series of questions, I was honored to hear that I was actually selected! I want to personally thank my colleague and dear friend Melissa Goitia Werner with whom helped all of this get started. Soon after the article was published, I was contacted by ASU News asking to do a story on my accomplishments. To say that I was excited was an understatement. Then, to actually see it printed and be complimented by my friends and colleagues meant more to me then I can ever articulate. I am very thankful for the many faculty and staff at ASU with whom have helped and support me during my tenure at ASU. However, I wanted to dedicate this article to my students. I have tagged as many of my students as I have as “friends” on Facebook. As your advisor or former advisor, my success is a product of the hard work and dedication you have given me and ASU. I am proud of each and every one of you and will always consider you a special part of my life. Please share with other students that you know were a part of this honor and let them know that I appreciate them as well. If I mistakenly forgot someone, I am apologies as every one of you are just as important as the next. As I was reading a series of quotes today, one stuck out to me that I believe best fits my leadership. Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves”. As a student organization advisor, I want nothing more than for my students to succeed. I am thankful to be working and have worked with some incredible students while at ASU. Continue to be the change you want to see in the world. Thank you all for the great memories and for those that have still to be made! https://asunews.asu.edu/20140807-event-pro-fall-welcome
