This will be one of the coolest moments in music you ever get to see. The true mark of an artist like Prince is when he can take the stage with his contemporaries, keep up with them musically, outshine them in style and steal the show with a colorful hat and an attitude that says he doesnt need to do any interviews because if you watched the perfrormance, what more could possibly be said. Here is one of the very best performances of by Pince with a super group of Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison (Beatle George Harrisons son), Steve Ferrrone (Heartbreakers, Average White Band, Duran Duran, Eric Claptons band), Dave Mason, Jackson Browne, Frank Beard (ZZ Top), Marc Mann (Oingo Boingo, ELO, Eric Claptons band), Jim Capaldi (Traffic), and a host of other musicians. This concert was held as part of the induction ceremony for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The musicians playing together were there for the induction of George Harrison, Steve Winwoods band Traffic, ZZ Top, Bob Segar, The Dells & Prince. The absolute highlight of the performance is that the song itself stands on its own. The lyrics are simple and the melody haunting as Petty and Lynne go back and forth for the first few stanzas. Then, with the spitting image of George Harrison in his son Dahni sharing the stage with his dads best mates, the song really gets going. At about 3:20 watch closely as Prince, who has been playing in the shadows at stage right, takes the nod from Tom Petty and begins his turn with a guitar solo. As his alloted time is about to end, Petty recognizes that this is a very special moment and all is coming together for a memorable performance so he gives Prince the nod to continue his solo. Dahni Harrison is all smiles as he plays the acoustic guitar behind Prince with a full view of the show. At about 4:46 Prince, still playing one of the best guitar solos ever, including a few bars with his teeth and tongue, walks to the edge of the stage, turns his back to the audience and slowly allows himself to genly fall back into the waiting hands of a security guard who supports Prince as he continues wailing on the guitar. At around 6:09, Prince finishes the solo with a few flairs that lead the band to end the song as Prince flips the guitar strap over his head and all in one smooth rehearsed move the guitar sails in to the sea of fans near the stage as Prince just walks off stage without looking back, without even a bow to the crowd, just dissappears into the shadows and is gone. He knows the tribute is for George Harrison so he plays his heart out with respect to George and his family then leaves the stage for the applause to rain on those who were closest to Harrison. This is truly one of the very best moments in all of music history. I am hard pressed to name another moment that has this depth of impact with these caliber of musicians and icons on a single stage. Well worth the twelve minutes it takes to watch it twice!!!!!
