This will be our last post before we shut the page down. Its been an interesting two years in Mount Joy, to say the very least. We fought a good battle, basically from the moment of inception, beginning with the protest by a neighbor who didnt like the smell of beer or shrimp. We pushed forward to get through that period with the support of many good people. In the 1.5 years that followed, we elevated the level of beer, food, service and housekeeping beyond anything that Mount Joy had seen before. We provided good products and a quality experience that was enjoyed by many. One of the proudest moments was being told by people who traveled from Philly, food mecca, they had traveled to Mount Joy just to eat at our place. On another occasion, we were host to Mount Joys first gay wedding. It was an incredible honor to be chosen by these two guests, and a memory we will always carry. While there were many beautiful moments at Zucks, it wasnt always pretty. We were the subject of some rather hostile treatment by a smathering of local negative types who basically look for targets to trash and then move onto the next, perhaps only because their world is as narrow as a pint of beer. Today as we spent hours tearing down what we just built, various visitors were a fair representation of what the past two years have been, a bit of it all. One kind customer was just confirming the rumor was true, followed by a carload who had been wanting to come here for awhile, and then the ones who have reached out merely to pick our carcass clean. The first of two great visits was one brewery neighbor with a plate of Christmas cookies. Despite having received a not so anonymous postcard back before we opened, urging him to file a protest against our license, he met us with an open mind. He thanked us for being such good neighbors, pointing out we were actually much quieter than another. And then came the other great visit, the guys from Columbia Kettle Works. How do you feel about funerals? I asked when they could clearly see our sadness today. We dont like attending them. These are good folks who have worked hard to have a solid, clean and honest business. They came to express their sadness for our situation and to offer any help they possible could. For the last couple weeks in particular, weve been referring our guests to Columbia Kettle Works. The day is here finally, and we encourage you all to patronize their establishment - not if youre a dick who likes to go in and trash a place and peck away on Untappd complaining - just if you want a nice experience and to support good people. They by far out-brew anyone else in the area, and were particular to that delish coffee stout. Its just beer people. Thats it. A beverage. Although it does pair nicely with SHRIMP.
