This will only concern my facebook buddies who enjoy watching the sport of MotoGP motorcycle racing on the telly so if youre not a fan youll probably want to skip this post. It seems that BT Sport have EXCLUSIVE rights to show MotoGP on the telly this year which means that if you have no access to BT Sport then its no viewing MOTOGP on the telly this year and possibly for the next five years as BT Sport have an exclusive five year deal with Dorna who own the television rights. Personally this isnt a problem for me as my internet provider is BT and I have Sky TV as well so I get to watch MotoGP on the telly for free. What if youre not a BT customer though, where does that leave you? Well, if youre a sky subscriber youll be able to add BT Sport to your sky package but itll cost you an extra £12 a month (plus a one off £15 activation charge!) for the privilege! If youre a Freeview viewer then it looks like youre almost completely out of luck......I say almost as I THINK ITV4 are showing a one hour highlights program on a Monday night......pretty pathetic really but better than nothing I suppose? Unlike last year, Eurosport are being denied the right to show non-live races and the BBC have no plans to show any racing at all since they lost out on their bid for the TV rights to BT Sport. Is this exclusive BT deal good for the sport though is the question? Well Dorna would probably tell you yes as it guarantees an income to MotoGP for the next five years but I would contend that limiting the audience to die hard fans who are prepared to fork out hard earned cash for the privilege of viewing MotoGP restricts its growing popularity with a wider audience of new fans which it attracted when it was available on the BBC or on Eurosport as part of an existing sky package? Thats a personal view though and I expect others would disagree but one thing is for sure...........if youre not a BT customer and you want to watch MotoGP now and for the foreseeable future, then its going to cost you! :-(
