This will probably upset some people but I personally feel no white belt should compete. As a matter of fact a student should not compete until they are at least a 2 stripe blue belt. A white belt should spend his or her time trying to be proficient with self defense and the basic techniques. Once a blue belt is achieved then they can focus on the competition techniques and preparing for competitions if they wish to compete. There is always time competitions later on in ones Jiu-Jitsu journey.
