This will surely be the strangest/saddest conservation news youll hear today - DOC says a dead South Island kiwi (either a Stewart Island or Fiordland Tokoeka) has been found just a kilometre from a BP station in Otaki. For those who dont know it, Otaki is a small town on the Kapiti Coast, about an hour north of Wellington. Its missing toe probably gives a clue as to how it wound up where it did ....and how it came to die. Jay
