This woodsculpture is a continuation of the maritime piece titled Bountiful Harvest. It is a scene depicting a Downeast fisherman hauling in his lobster traps, circa 1890. Not many sculpted works exist on these themes -especially themes hand-carved in wood. After much exploring and research I find that not only is this medium interesting, but the subject matter. It gives depth and feel for the moment portrayed. As for the vessel, the dory, its a simple craft; but was used extensively for major fishing -especially on the schooners that operated in Gloucester and the Canadian ports, re: Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
