This year 217 communities from 43 States have made a commitment to invest in children through play. Sponsored by the Humana Foundation, Playful City USA is a national recognition program from non-profit KaBOOM! that celebrates and promotes cities with local policies and programs that increase play opportunities for children. Missoula is Montana’s only official Playful City. Payette claims the title for Idaho, and Laramie is Wyoming’s. North Dakota has three: Bismarck, West Fargo, and Fargo. South Carolina has six, including Spartanburg which has received the designation every year since the program’s inception seven years ago. But Florida is the stand-out with 32 official Playful City USA designations.
