This year for the first time in 50 years I will not watch the laying of the wreaths at the cenotaph. I cannot bear to watch the faces of the politicians and their mock sorrow showing a false honour to past and present forces personnel. They will cry their crocodile tears while making long serving personnel redundant weeks or days before they are time served, robbing them of their pensions, while they themselves take a pay increase of £11,500 a year. They will say they respect the old soldiers while voting against a fuel freeze to help them keep warm, while they themselves get their fuel paid for by the taxpayer. They will have their sorrowful faces on yet deny wounded forces personnel sick pay to help them cope with their missing limbs, leaving them to live on £71 a week while they themselves dine out in their subsidised restaurants and bars. Tomorrow I will pay my respects to the services on my own quietly and leave the politicians to their hypocrisy.
