This year has been a fun one! This was our ten-year band-iversary, so to rin in the new year, we’ve compiled a list of our ten favorite moments of 2014 just for you! In no particular order: 1. The Julie Ruin In April, we played a show with The Julie Ruin and Habibi at the Beachland Ballroom. It was so cool because we got to meet our hero, Kathleen Hanna who lived up to all of our wildest expectations even though we were so nervous to meet her! 2. DJing at the The Beachland Ballroom and Tavern We DJed the Beachland brunch a couple of times in 2014, we ate poached eggs and made cool friends! 3. Cracker / first local band to play Music Box Supper Club We opened for the band Cracker at the Music Box Supper Club. It was really fun, and we were the first local band to play the Music Box, which was intimidating but it ended up being a great show thanks to Colleens kindness. Dave Lowrey was really nice to us and he even showed us his vast collection of Silicon Valley shirts. They really enjoyed our set, too! 4. Shonen Knife We opened for these legends at the Beachland for their 999th show. They liked us a lot and Emi, the drummer, played with our dog. DJ Sashimi from their label was very sweet as well, and she let us use her Duct Tape. It was really cool to see them blogging about us after the show in Japanese, haha. 5. Fun Fun Fun Fest / trip to Austin in general Best week of the year! Our first time in Austin, Texas was a blast! We played two shows, saw a plethora of amazing bands, and ate taco truck tacos. Our cds are now for sale in Waterloo Records and at End of an Ear. The highlights of Fun Fun Fun were meeting Courtney Barnett and watching Foxygen and Neutral Milk Hotel with our friends Skating Polly. While we were there, we also got to meet our longtime friend Jeff from Hyperbubble, and meet up with other friends we hadn’t seen in a long time, like the Bumping Uglies. 6. Local Fests We played a couple of local music festivals like NEOCycle and Highland Square Porch Rokr Festival, which allowed us to meet some cool NEO Rock Royalty like members of the Waitresses and Tin Huey, as well as fans of our music (which blows our mind)! We were also a part of the Cleveland Rocks: Past, Present and Future photo gallery which was a real honor. 7. Akron Art Museum Pecha Kucha We were approached by the Akron Art Museum to present a pecha kucha presentation. We didn’t really know what to do, and the task was a scary honor, and we decided the best route would be writing a 10-minute song that encompassed our entire 10 year legacy. It was a whirlwind adventure, I assure you. You can find the presentation on YouTube. 8. Yellow Phone Music Conference / WUWM We were honored to be invited back to Milwaukee for the great Yellow Phone Music Conference where we met Butch Vig, Jeff Castelaz, and Martin Atkins among others. We also met some great bands who we have kept in contact with and who we have hosted as they’ve passed through our area. On that same trip, we did a fun interview on WUWMs NPR affiliate and I lost my voice! It was great! 9. 18th Birthday Party This year I turned 18 and had a bangin’ birthday party with Heavenly Creatures Music, and up and coming punkers, Thundermatics, Girl Cancer, Furimmer, and Pennywhistle. We are so impressed with how many friends, family and local musicians who came to celebrate with us! It warmed our hearts. 10. courtney barnett We sorta got to know Courtney Barnett this year, which was wicked because shes one of our definite heroes. We interviewed her on HuffPost Live and then met her at Fun Fun Fun Fest, thanks to our friend Billy Bragg who contacted her on our behalf. It was so cool to meet her and definitely was a a highlight of our year. Bonus: Meeting so many cool fans all over the place in Akron, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Austin, EVERYWHERE! Its incredible to meet all of you and it melts our hearts to know you like what we do. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year so great! Heres to 2015 and all the greatness it will bring!
