This year marks history at Widener. During Homecoming weekend the inaugural class of inductees will be welcomed into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Among the recipients is Billy “White Shoes” Johnson. During his time at Widener, he shattered no less than nine all-time NCAA marks and 12 Middle Atlantic Conference records. One of most colorful open field runners in college football, Johnson known for being one of the first to display a celebration in the end zone. Johnson was a part of the first class inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. He went on to play for four NFL teams, one CFL squad and was named to the NFLs 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
